Clinton-Macomb Library

dneumann1972

There’s a magical place where stories come to life, imaginations soar, and learning feels like an exciting adventure—welcome to the kids’ section of the Clinton-Macomb Library. I love exploring new and exciting libraries, especially when I can nurture the love of books with my grand-baby.

Walking into any library, the first thing that strikes me is the quiet hum of activity. People are engrossed in books, some typing on laptops, and others browsing the shelves. But our destination was clear—the vibrant, colorful, and inviting kids’ section, a place that beckons exploration.

The Clinton-Macomb Library didn’t disappoint. Like all libraries, the shelves were filled with picture books, early readers, and chapter books. But this kids’ section had more than just brightly colored rugs and cozy reading nooks. It was welcoming with interactive activities, from a puppet theater to fun-themed reading nooks and an assortment of manipulatives placed throughout.

Transportation was the theme, and throughout the reading nooks were different modes of transportation, from a boat to a school bus. The books were shelved in a train that wound around the library, complete with a caboose and an engine. The plane flying in the sky had a control panel that turned on the propeller and the lights. I think I enjoyed turning on the plane as much as Roland did.

We quickly settled into playing with a vertical Lego table when Roland discovered the computer section—or rather a quiet area with tablets featuring math and reading learning games. As we explored the apps available, I could hear other children and their caregivers exploring, and I felt this was a great blend of play and learning, making education feel like a natural part of any library adventure.

One of the highlights of our visit is discovering new books. Although we did not have a card for this library, we found new books to look for at our local library. Roland’s eyes lit up at the sight of a book about dinosaurs in the non-fiction section, and he shouted, “Dinosaur Book!” and snuggled up with me to look at the pictures.

Visiting the library with my grand-baby reminded me of the importance of nurturing a love for reading from a young age. The kids’ section is more than just a place to find books; it’s a space where children can explore, learn, and grow. Whether it’s through reading together, playing with educational toys, or simply enjoying the atmosphere, the library offers endless opportunities for young minds to flourish, and the Clinton-Macomb Library did just that.

It’s a library we plan on visiting again – you never know what magical discoveries we will find next time.
